As you EXPLORE THE MUSEUM, you’ll discover our permanent collection offers a glimpse into many eras and styles of art. Our collection includes:

  • icons (16th – 18th century and Neo-Coptic (20th and 21st centuries)
  • paintings (18th – 20th century)
  • ancient textile fragments and contemporary tapestries
  • ancient manuscripts (including papyrus fragments)
  • jewellery (dating from ancient Egypt to the 20th century)
  • 18th-century see-through wood frames known as mashrabiya
  • pottery and clay works
  • crosses of various styles
  • Coptic ecclesiastical vestments
  • Stamp collection (the first stamps issued in Egypt to present day, including stamps with a Christian theme and a  British Museum collector’s set of 38 gold foil stamps of the Treasures of Tutankhamun

The large coin collection, dating from Alexander the Great to present-day Egypt, is one of our highlights, particularly for young visitors!

Our Museum is unique because it is the only one that exhibits six biblical scenes in Coptic “folkloric” style by Marguerite Nahkla (1908–1977), the leading Egyptian woman painter of her generation.

The Museum periodically offers thematic exhibitions based on our permanent collection and temporary exhibitions from other Museums and artists.

PLAN YOUR VISIT outlines the range of programs we offer to individuals and groups, including public schools and university students and scholars.

Visit COPTIC STUDIES  At the Museum, we recognize the importance of up-to-date scholarly research and of contextualizing our collection. Since 2005, we have taken the lead in raising funds for a lecturer to teach courses in Coptic Studies at the University of Toronto’s Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations.
